I recently replaced all ink cartridges with new HP ones. When printing from laptop (word, pdf, notepad) the pages sound like they are printing but all of the pages are blank. I've ran the clean print heads and printed test pages and the test pages are fine. Color and alignment look perfect. Just can print anything else. I found these instructions on a similar forum issue and I tried it but it still does not work. I've also tried firmware update but it says I'm "up to date".
- Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
- Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
- Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
- The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector. Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.
What else can I try?

Hi @keyng,
Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are having issues related to your HP Printer. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Have you recently made any changes on the printer before the issue started?
How is the printer connected? USB/Wireless
Have you tried to run a HP Print and Scan Doctor?
Are you able to make a copy from the printer?
In the meantime, let's try these steps here:
Please make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Remove USB cable, if present.
Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.
I would start by checking the installed printer software by downloading and running the HP Print and Scan Doctor. This tool can diagnose and fix many printing and printer software related issues. Please use this link to help you with that information: http://hp.care/2biN2XE
Let’s first try and make a “photocopy” to determine whether the issue is with the printer or not. Place a document on the scanner glass and choose “Copy” option. If the printer is making a good copy, then the printer hardware is fine.
If the issue persists, then try the steps below:
First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Photosmart printer entries and uninstall them.
Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
Restart your computer.
Click the bottom-left Start button on desktop, type device manager in the search box and tap Device Manager on the menu.
Once in device manager, click on the view tab in the top & choose “Show hidden devices”.
Then from the device manager list, check the entries under “Printer” – If there are any entries, please right click and choose “uninstall” – In the confirm device un-install pop-up, make sure you select the box which says “Delete the driver software for this device".
Also, check the entries under "printer queue" and "imaging devices" and repeat the same exercise. Delete any printer entry or any entry which says “Unknown device”.
Once done, close device-manger. Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (there is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
Again, go to run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
Open run again, type “%temp%” and press enter to get the temporary files. Delete all the files here. Skip the items which cannot be deleted.
Now restart your computer again.
Open the Run window again, type “services.msc” and press ok to get services window.
Scroll down to “Remote Procedure Call (RPC)” – right-click and go to properties. Make sure the service is started and startup type is “Automatic”.
Now scroll up and go to “Function Discovery Provider Host” – right-click and select properties – Change the startup type to “manual” and start the service.
Repeat the same exercise on “Function Discovery Resource Publication” as well.
Click on this link: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL43773/mp-108670-3/PS7520_1315-1.exe to install the printer software.
Connect the USB cable only if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!
Eagerly waiting for your response!
I hope you have a good day ahead,
And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.

Thanks for responding.
answers to your questions:
Have you recently made any changes on the printer before the issue started? the only change was replacing all of the ink cartridges with new genuine HP ones ... printer was working fine previously just faint and the ink levels were all low or out
How is the printer connected? USB/Wireless ... connection is wireless
Have you tried to run a HP Print and Scan Doctor? see below
Are you able to make a copy from the printer? I did your steps below for unplugging and clearing the charges. I plugged it back in and tried making a copy. Once again it sounds like it is printing but the pages comes out blank.
Regarding the print and scan doctor. I downloaded the software and ran the process.
It found my printer right away but when I told it to "fix printing problems" it said it thought my printer was offline.I allowed it to reboot and then it found it.It said something stuck in the print queue and allowed it to clear it. I then allowed it to print a test page and the color blocks all looked fine but the black was very faint, barely visible, so I allowed it to clean the print heads. The test pages I had printed before did not look like this ... the black seemed fine. But I ran "clean printheads" process and now everything seems fine.
I had ran a clean cycle when this first happened so it's hard to believe that just the cleaning fixed this. But it does seem to have fixed it. I have made a copy of something and printed from my laptop and it looks fine.
thanks again for your help.

I have a PDF file of a wedding invitation (lots of graphics) that will print but it only prints in black and white,no color.
I've done all the tests on the printed and am using HP ink. I have the feeling it's some where in the print set up. Can anyone help?
