I replaced my toner cartridge in my HP LaserJet printer. The model number is M234SDW. Now it’s showing an! And a flashing 49 and it will not print but sporadically

Let's walk through a few steps to resolve this issue. 

Step-by-Step Fix from HP Support

1. Power Cycle the Printer

This clears temporary memory and resets the system.

  • Turn off the printer using the power button.
  • Unplug it from the wall for at least 30 seconds.
  • Plug it directly into a wall socket (not a surge protector).
  • Turn it back on and wait for it to initialize.


2. Disconnect All Cables

  • Turn off the printer again.
  • Disconnect USB, Ethernet, or wireless connections.
  • Restart the printer with no cables attached.
  • If it boots to Ready, reconnect one cable at a time and test printing.


3. Update the Printer Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause 49 errors, especially after hardware changes like toner replacement.

  • Install it using the HP Smart app or HP Easy Start.

4. Try a Different Print Driver
