Hi @ColLudlow

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Smart Tank 7000 printer is experiencing an issue where all button lights and functions on the screen are flashing. This could be an indicator of an internal error, hardware malfunction, or a system reset required. Here are several troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue:

1. Restart the Printer

A simple power cycle can often resolve flashing light or error issues.

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and from the wall outlet.
  • Wait for 1-2 minutes to ensure all residual power is drained from the printer.
  • Plug the power cord back in and turn on the printer.
  • Check if the lights are still flashing after the restart.

2. Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions

Sometimes, flashing lights on the printer can indicate a paper jam or other physical obstruction.

  • Open the paper tray and check for any paper stuck inside the printer.
  • Check the ink cartridge area and make sure there are no objects blocking the printhead or any paper that may have gotten stuck.
  • Carefully remove any jammed paper and try restarting the printer again.

3. Check the Ink System

Issues with the ink system (such as improperly seated cartridges or a malfunctioning ink tank) could trigger flashing lights.

  • Open the printer and check the ink cartridges and ink tanks.
  • Ensure that all ink tanks and cartridges are properly installed and seated correctly.
  • If any ink tank or cartridge is missing, improperly installed, or damaged, replace it or reseat it properly.

4. Check for Overheating

If the printer is overheated, it may cause the lights and screen to flash as a safety precaution.

  • Ensure the printer is in a well-ventilated area and not sitting in direct sunlight or next to a heat source.
  • Allow the printer to cool down for a few minutes and then try turning it on again.

5. Perform a Hard Reset

A hard reset can sometimes help if the printer is stuck in an error state.

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the printer and the electrical outlet.
  • Wait for 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back in, and turn on the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
