Hi @French55,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like you're experiencing an issue with your HP Envy Photo 6234 printer where it incorrectly detects that the paper tray is empty when you try to print a document, despite having paper in the tray. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.
- Check Paper Alignment: Ensure that the paper in the tray is properly aligned. Sometimes, if the paper is not aligned correctly, the printer may have difficulty detecting it.
- Verify Paper Type and Size: Make sure that the paper type and size settings in your printer match the settings in your print job. If there's a mismatch, the printer might not recognize the loaded paper.
- Update Printer Drivers: Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause communication issues between the computer and the printer.
- Restart Printer: Turn off your printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute, and then plug it back in. Restart your computer as well. This can sometimes resolve temporary glitches.
- Reset Printer Settings: Check your printer settings and try resetting them to default. This can be done through the printer menu or the printer software on your computer.
- Firmware Update: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. HP release firmware updates to address known issues and improve overall performance.
- Paper Sensor Check: There might be a sensor issue with the paper tray. Check for any debris or paper bits around the paper sensor. Gently clean the sensor using compressed air or a soft brush.
- Test Print from Different Source: Try printing a test page or document from a different program or device. This can help determine if the issue is specific to one application or source.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Dear Alden4,
Thans for your support, but my issue is more complicated.
It says the papertray is empty, but when I let it print some of it's one printer info it prints fine without any comment. When I ask after that action a normal printrequest via the wifi it says there is no paper, but the tray is still ful.
I just don't get it that the printer makes a difference there. Also when I let it scan something and produce a copy, no problem there.
already did a ful reset and a wifi reset.
Didn't help.
