HP ENVY 6455e All-in-One Printer

All lights are blinking and there is an E6 error code. However, there is no paper jam. Have reset by unplugging numerous times. When I open the top of the printer the cartridge carrier does not move to the left like it used to. I recently replaced the black cartridge but I did print subsequent to that. I feel like the carrier is the issue but no resources to help.

Also, I did turn it off and moved the carrier slowly to the left as instructed one of these forums. I took out the cartridges and reinstalled. Still the same errors.

Hi @wils4776,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When dealing with an E6 error on your HP ENVY 6455e printer and the cartridge carrier isn't moving as expected, it typically indicates a hardware issue with the printer itself, possibly related to the cartridge carriage mechanism. Here’s what you can try to troubleshoot.

Check Cartridge Installation: Ensure that the black cartridge you recently replaced is installed correctly. Sometimes, improper installation or a loose connection can cause issues. Try reseating the cartridge to make sure it’s properly inserted.

Inspect for Obstructions: Even if there’s no visible paper jam, check carefully for any small pieces of paper or debris that may be obstructing the carriage or any sensors inside the printer. Use a flashlight if needed to get a clear view.

Reset the Printer: Since you’ve already tried unplugging the printer, let’s try a more thorough reset:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from the outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the outlet and turn on the printer.
  • Check if the issue persists.

Manually Move the Carriage: If the cartridge carrier isn’t moving automatically when you open the top, gently move it from side to side to check for any obstructions or if it’s stuck.

Check for Firmware Updates: Sometimes, updating the printer’s firmware can resolve various issues. Check HP’s official website for any available firmware updates for your model and follow the instructions to update it.

Given the symptoms you described, focusing on ensuring the cartridge is correctly installed and checking for any physical obstructions are good initial steps.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I have the same issue EXCEPT the printer cartridges slide as usual and we have not replaced cartridges recently.  The error code and flashing lights all started when refilling the paper try.  There is no paper jam.  HELP!

I couldn't get anything to work and finally found the number on the website to call after looking for some time to find it. The one that keeps popping up on this forum is a scam or just wrong. I tried to post the correct number here but it won't let me. If you go to contact HP and then click on the detail of some of the service plans you pay for, at the end is a phone number that got me to the service desk.

I encountered the same issue. A factory reset didn’t solve it, but using 'HP Secure Erase' did. After that, I just reconnected the printer to my network, and everything worked fine. Might also have to set it up back on each device.
