HP LaserJet M209dw Printer

When I turn on the printer M209dw the green light starts blinking as normal and the wifi light on the control panel comes on as normal very briefly. Then the amber light starts blinking, and the wifi light on the control panel turns off. After turning off the print, the same keeps happening when I re-start. On a further restart I try to print the configuration report before the amber light starts blinking, holding the "i" button and down arrow button for 3 seconds. When I press the down arrow button  to print, the paper light comes on the control panel and the amber light starts blinking. After about 20 seconds the control panel turns off with the amber light blinking. I checked both the cartridge is located properly and there is no paper jammed in the printer.

@C___1, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Based on your description, amber light blinking, Wi-Fi light turning off, and printer becoming unresponsive, this typically indicates a hardware or connectivity error, possibly related to firmware, network setup, or internal printer diagnostics.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Identify the Blinking Light Pattern

Based on your description, it sounds like the Attention (amber) light is blinking, and the Wi-Fi light turns off.

Refer to this official HP guide to match the exact blinking pattern: HP LaserJet M207-M212 printers - Blinking lights | HP® Support

Restore Wi-Fi Setup Mode

If the Wi-Fi light turns off quickly, the printer may have exited setup mode. To restore it:

  1. Press and hold the Wireless button on the printer for 10 seconds until the Attention light blinks.
  2. This resets the wireless settings and puts the printer back into Wi-Fi setup mode.

Print a Configuration Report

You mentioned trying to print the report using the “i” and Down Arrow buttons. Try this instead:

  • Press and hold the “i” button until the report prints (do not press the down arrow).
  • If the printer shuts down again, skip to Step 5.

Use HP Smart App for Setup

  1. Download the HP Smart app on your phone or PC.
  2. Open the app and click “Add Printer”.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi.

Perform a Power Reset

  1. Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cable from both the printer and the wall.
  2. Wait 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect and power it on.

Update Firmware (if accessible)

If you manage to connect the printer, check for firmware updates via:

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
