From one day to the next, my printer suddenly stopped printing black ink; other colors are fine. I ran the "clean print head" and "align print head" functions multiple times; the printer prints the alignment page with color but no black and displays an "alignment failed" message every time.
Although the black ink cartridge was more than 75% full, I replaced it with a new one, but nothing changed.
Next, I removed the print head and flushed it with warm water, removing all the accumulated ink, and let it air dry overnight. Still no change.
Next, I installed a new print head. The printer then printed about five pages normally, then returned to printing no black. When I try to align the print head again, I'm back to the "alignment failed" message.
Do I have any further options besides buying a new printer? That would be especially annoying since I just spent about $125 on the new cartridge and print head for this one.

I would like to take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums. I understand from your post that you have an HP Officejet 7500A printer and initially it did not print black color. You have replaced the black cartridge with another new black cartridge, cleaned the printhead and issue still persists. Later, you replaced the printhead and the printer does not align. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.
Before we come to a final conclusion, I recommend you to perform the below steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a solution:
- Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
- Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
- Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
- The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector. Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.
Once you perform the above steps, please check if the alignment is okay. But if the issue persists then please perform the steps from this link: http://hp.care/2i5zkfq.
NOTE: Please skip the steps from the document which you have already performed (like replacing cartridge etc.).
After yo have performed all troubleshooting and if alignment still fails then I suggest you to reach out to HP phone support to explore the hardware service options for your printer. Let me know your country of residence and I will find the contact information for you. Good luck! 🙂

By the way, I tried the Contact page to see about getting the printer serviced and after entering all my contact info, I just get a message back saying "Your product's warranty expired," with an invitation to tweet my support request to HP. I don't use Twitter.
