This only for copy and print a black and white original directly from C410a printer, no computer operating system.
The 564 Black ink was just bought from store.hp.com 2 days ago, need to dupliate a black and white page using "COPY Black" button - the output is BLANK page. Tried to use "COPY Color" button, output is bluish green, barely readable.
Thanks for any help in advance.

The troubleshooting steps in the document here may help resolve black not printing on your Photosmart c410a printer. Go through the steps in order. If you get to Solution Seven without success I would suggest soaking the printhead as described in the post here.

Hi Bob,
I want to thank you for the help you gave me … even though nothing seem to work …
I have gone through all 7 steps in order (still blank output), then, followed the procedure on “soaking the printhead” link. The same!
All testing pages print out with colors, no BLACK, the only black printed are 4 black brackets [ ] around small horizontal color bars. Nothing seems to help.
All 4 (Black 564XL and 564 3-pack Cyan/Magenta/Yellow) ink cartridges are brand new; when I checked printer ink level, I found out that my HP C410a is a 5-cartridge printer with 2 black ink cartridges, all 4 new ones are full except the other smaller black ink cartridges with Bowtie symbol is dried out.
I tried using “Copy Color” button on printer - the color output printed bluish green without BLACK ink, doesn’t seem to use the new Black 564XL. Do you know if printing color pages, C410a uses this smaller black ink cartridges with Bowtie symbol? If YES, I can buy a new one to print color document; otherwise this printer will have to send to the recycle bin.
I wonder if you know any other HP printer I can buy that uses 564 ink cartridges, or the ink cartridges will also be in recycle bin.
Thanks again in advance. \Lillian

The "bowtie" cartridge is the 564 Photo.
The "black" brackets in the test page are actually a mixture of black and color inks, used to show the brackets even if black is not working.
The following printers use the 564 cartridges. I do not think there are any current models that use these. I would suggest trying the soak once more before giving up on the printer.

A few more thoughts - the black cartridge will not be used if photo paper is selected in the driver, make sure plain paper is selected if that is what you are printing. (Although this would not be the case for the test page.)
If the standard troubleshooting did not resolve black not printing I would suggest removing the black cartridge. Turn it over and examine the area around the ink port. There are four orange plastic spots, left over from the protective cap. Make sure these are flush with the cartridge body, if not carefully trim them flush. If the plastic nubs protrude they can prevent the cartridge from seating properly. Before replacing the cartridge in the printer dribble a few (maybe four) drops of hot water into the ink port in the printer and two drops into the ink port on the cartridge then snap the cartridge back in position.
I have also seen cases where leaving the printer overnight after the cleaning cycles allows black to recover.
If none of the above restores black printing your printer will likely require repair or replacement.

Nothing works, the color ink level are half way gone from the test pages. I think it’s time for a replacement as the printer has long past the warranty.
The only problem I have is to find a new HP model supports Mac OS X10.7 – my Mac Pro is old but works great, upgraded a few things except the OS no longer support by Apple. I didn't like the latest Mac Pro hope Apple will release a newer one.
Thanks for all your help. \Lillian
