I ordered a print cartridge for my HP55400 Printer. When I put the cartride in I kept getting and error message to reinstall. When I did, I get an "X" symbol across the ink level symbol.   I think I may have nock version or a cartridge that was refilled but I can not get any information on what the"x" Symbol means

 @franlop39,

It is great to have you back and your patience is greatly appreciated.

The red X means the cartridge is defective or not detected by the printer. I recommend you replace the cartridge and check.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

I have attemped all of the recomendations. The printer was working until the ink ran out. I replaced the cartridge on the same day.  I am not sure, however, if I havd a Genuine HP Cartridge.  I opened a Sealed HP #62XL Black Ink Cartridge C2P05AN NEW GENUINE, but I am not sure if it was an original. It came in a foil package that was still sealed. I am not sure, however, that it was not a knock off.  That's why I am trying to find out what the letter "x" means on the ink level display.  Does "x" indicacate a knock off or a refilled cartridge that was not meant for refill ?  I think  a reseller sent me a pirated product.   I could not find any reference to an  "X" across the ink supply display on my HP PC.

I tried to look up ink level display referneces, but could not find and "x"

Thanks,

@franlop39,

It is great to have you back and your patience is greatly appreciated.

I recommend you install the old cartridges and check whether you are getting the same error. If you are not getting the error it means that the new cartridge is defective and I recommend you try using a new cartridge and check.

If you are facing the same issue with the old cartridges as well then, I recommend you update the printer firmware and check whether it resolves the issue.

Follow the steps in the below artilce to update the printer firmware.

 I appreciate your efforts.  I just wish someone from HP could tell me what the "x" in the HP Display on the Printer Means.  I presume it means that I have a defective cartridge.  Unfortunalely, the cartridge I replaced is empty.  I do not get the same "x" symbol, just and empty cartridge indicator.  I looked tried to look up information on the Display Exmples of ink levels, and none, that I could find shows the same "X" across the ink symbol.  I don't have another new cartridge. The problem is that I ordered one, well in advance the cartridge being used, and now that it does not work, i have to buy a new one.  If If have too many  for back up,  i have found that I have gone past the date when I can attempt to get a refund or replacement.  That's a problem in dealing with a reseller.  The produce looks the same, in the same sealed HP Package but is probably from some type of a counterfitter.  Since I can't be an explanation from  HP on the Code, I can not tell the seller that the HP symbol means a defective cartridge.

I am interested in the SYMBOLS BEING DISPLAYED ON THE SCREEN AND I CAN NOT FIND EXAMPLES IN THE HP DOCUMENTATION>  IT MAY BE THERE<  BUT I CAN NOT FIND IT AND DON"T KNOW HOW TO GET HP TO PROVIDE AN ANSWER.

Thanks,

That is what I thought but wanted to know.  I don't believe I will be able to get a refund or replacment, but I did want to notifiy the seller, if I can, that the product was defective.  I thought that was what the symbol was, but I wanted to make sure of it, before I tried again for a replacment.

I am not sure where I should have been able to find this out, but I could not find it in the documentation ( it may be there, but I  could not find it).

Thanks again.
