On my 4050TN the display backlight is too bright and makes it difficult to read what is on the display.  Is there a way to adjust the backlight or perhaps a contrast adjust?  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The HP LaserJet 4050TN does not have any menu option to adjust the display backlight or contrast. The LCD screen on this model has a fixed contrast level and a fixed electroluminescent (EL) backlight, so the brightness cannot be changed through settings.

Why it appears too bright:
The EL backlight used in these older printers can appear very bright or washed out, especially as it ages.

What you can do:

  1. Adjust your viewing angle. Sometimes looking at the display from slightly above or below makes it easier to read.

  2. Reduce glare from room lighting. Changing the printer’s position can help the display look less harsh.

  3. Apply a small piece of matte or anti-glare film (cut from a phone screen protector) over the display to reduce brightness and increase readability.

  4. Replace the display or backlight (advanced). The EL backlight or the entire LCD module can be replaced, but this requires opening the control panel and some technical skill. Replacement parts can still be found from third-party suppliers.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
