I love my HP 8600 printer, but the printhead just died and I don't know whether I should replace it or buy new.  The printer will be nine years old in October, but doesn't get real heavy use.  Started having intermittent  "network printing problems" about six weeks ago.  I would have to "remove the printer" via Windows Control Panel and reinstall it. Sort of a pain, but it still worked.  This past weekend it started giving the printhead errors.  Removed the printhead and reinstalled. Same problem.

HP has the printhead for $160.45 and I had just recently bought new ink, so I have several unopened.  Questions: Is it worth it to spend $160 for a printhead, or should I just buy a new printer?  If I buy and install the new printhead, do you think I'll get several more years from the printer, or will something else go?

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I think in this case it's best to buy a new Printer and you can always exchange the unopened, in-warranty, HP genuine cartridges with the ones that will work with your new Printer if it's bought from HP by writing to isbescalationteam@hp.com

Thanks, Betty.  Yes, buying a new printer is probably best.  Unfortunately I didn't buy the ink directly from HP. I bought them either from Staples or Costco.

Thanks for your help.
