Hi @9high,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If the barcode on your HP printer is solid red and it's not asking for a new cartridge, it could indicate a problem with the printer's ink cartridges or the barcode reader. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue.
- Check ink levels: Open the printer software on your computer or access the printer's control panel to check the ink levels of your cartridges. Make sure the cartridges are not empty or low on ink.
- Remove and reinsert cartridges: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Open the printer cover and carefully remove the ink cartridges. Check for any protective tape or packaging that might be obstructing the cartridge contacts. Reinsert the cartridges firmly into their respective slots.
- Clean the cartridge contacts: If the contacts on the ink cartridges appear dirty or smudged, gently clean them using a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water. Avoid touching the nozzles or copper-colored contacts with your fingers.
- Reset the printer: Some printers have a reset option in the settings menu. Try resetting your printer to see if it resolves the issue. Consult your printer's manual or visit the HP support website for instructions specific to your model.
- Update printer firmware: Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. Visit the HP website and search for your printer model to find and download any available firmware updates. Follow the instructions provided by HP to update the firmware.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
