My 3 year old HP Envy Photo 7855 printer is not recognizing the black ink cartridge.  I've tried all of the tricks (replacing the cartridge, cleaning as recommended, resetting the printer with unplug, etc.  Strangely I was able to get a partial page printed, but then the error returned.  I've replaced the cartridge with 2 brand new (not cheap) cartridges and get the same error message.  HELP!!  I don't want to throw away this printer!

Hi @TerriLUCKY,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating to deal with printer issues, especially when you've tried several troubleshooting steps already. Here are a few additional suggestions you can try.

  • Check Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure that the black ink cartridge you're using is compatible with your HP Envy Photo 7855 printer model. Sometimes, using incompatible cartridges can cause recognition issues.
  • Inspect Cartridge Contacts: Check the cartridge contacts to make sure they're clean and free of any debris. Use a cotton swab lightly moistened with distilled water to clean the contacts gently.
  • Printer Firmware Update: Check if there's a firmware update available for your printer. Sometimes, updating the firmware can resolve compatibility issues and improve printer performance.
  • Reset Printer Settings: Try resetting the printer to its default settings. This process can vary depending on your printer model, so refer to the user manual or HP's support website for specific instructions.

If none of these steps work, it might indicate a hardware issue with the printer itself.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
