HP OfficeJet Pro 6960 All-in-One Printer

Black ink suddenly stopped printing. All colours ok.

have tried using maintenance to clean printer head and align printer heads. Replaced old black cartridge with a brand new hp cartridge from HP. Still doesn’t work. Printed test page, all colours ok but no black ink.

Hi @Tanian8808,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your black ink is not printing despite using a new cartridge and performing maintenance, here are several troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue:

1. Check Cartridge Installation

  • Make sure the new black ink cartridge is installed correctly. Remove it and reinstall it, ensuring it clicks into place securely.

2. Clean the Printhead Manually

  • Sometimes, automated cleaning isn't enough. You can manually clean the printhead:
    • Remove the printhead (if your printer model allows it).
    • Dampen a lint-free cloth or paper towel with distilled water and gently wipe the printhead nozzles.
    • Allow it to dry completely before reinstalling.

3. Run the Print Head Cleaning Utility Again

  • Sometimes multiple cleaning cycles are necessary:
    • Go to the printer's maintenance menu and run the cleaning cycle again.

4. Check Ink Levels

  • Even with a new cartridge, double-check that the black ink level is showing as full in your printer settings.

5. Use the Right Paper and Settings

  • Ensure you’re using the correct paper type and print settings. Sometimes using specialty paper can affect the print quality.

6. Perform a Printhead Alignment

  • Go to the maintenance section of your printer settings and run the printhead alignment function. This can sometimes resolve issues with ink not being printed correctly.

7. Check for Software Issues

  • Ensure that your printer driver is up to date. Check the HP website for the latest drivers specific to your printer model.

8. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the wall for about a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on. This can help clear any temporary glitches.

9. Try Printing from a Different Application

  • Sometimes, the issue can be related to the software you’re using. Try printing from a different application to see if the problem persists.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
