Hi @Kerrylc71,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like there might be a clog or some other issue with the black ink cartridge or printhead. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially fix the problem.

  • Check Ink Levels: Even if the printer indicates that the ink levels are fine, it's worth double-checking to ensure that there's enough black ink in the cartridge. If it's low, replacing it might solve the issue.
  • Run Printer Maintenance: Most printers have a maintenance or cleaning function that you can access through the printer settings on your computer. Running a printhead cleaning cycle might help unclog any dried ink that's blocking the nozzles.
  • Physical Inspection: Take out the black ink cartridge and inspect it for any visible signs of damage or blockage. If you see any debris or dried ink, carefully clean the cartridge using a lint-free cloth and a bit of distilled water.
  • Print a Test Page: Most printers have a built-in option to print a test page. This can help you determine if the issue is with the printer itself or with your computer or software.
  • Check Print Settings: Ensure that your print settings are configured correctly. Sometimes, printing in grayscale or black-and-white mode can inadvertently prevent the printer from using the black ink.
  • Update Printer Drivers: Make sure that your printer drivers are up-to-date. Sometimes, outdated drivers can cause printing issues.

By going through these steps, you should hopefully be able to identify and resolve the issue with your printer not printing black ink.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
