I had previously updated the printer driver. Ink levels are ok. Black text prints as green!. This was after I changed to a new black 65XL cartridge. Before that, the black text was faded and changed to green 3/4 of the way down the page.

@Deaf-Dave1, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

If you have the same issue with 2 different black ink cartridges, this could be an issue with the printer. For now, let us try these steps:

Clean the ink cartridges

  1. On the printer control panel, swipe left on the display, and then touch Setup .

  2. Touch Tools, and then touch Clean Cartridges.

  3. If the print quality is unacceptable, touch Yes when prompted to perform the next level of cleaning.

  4. NOTE: If the printhead is badly clogged, it might require another cleaning cycle. If so, wait 30 minutes before you perform both levels of cleaning again.

Print a Print Quality Diagnostic report

  1. On the printer control panel, swipe left on the display, and then touch Setup .

  2. Touch Tools.

  3. Swipe up on the display, and then touch Print Quality Report.

If the issue persists, perform step 13 from this document.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

 Hello Kumar,

Sorry for the late response. Your message was in my spam folder.

The first cartridge i used the other day was 3/4 full.

I tried to print one of my emails today with the new cartridge  and the page was almost all blank!

I checked to see if the driver needed to be updated with device manager and said it does NOT. After cleaning the cartridges, the first two test pages did not look good at all. In fact, on the second test page some of the print (the bottom half of a sentence) was missing.  I waited 30 minutes and did the cleaning routine again. Both the 3rd and 4th test pages had NO black ink. It's very late and i need to hit the sack. I'll perform step 13 in the morning and then get back to you with the results.

Thank You...

Good afternoon,

I went through all the steps mentioned. The Firmware is up to date and i re-installed the print driver. Still have the problem and in fact, its even worse! Yesterday the alignment page had black ink even though some writing at the bottom was partially missing. Today, the alignment page had NO black ink at all, I tried to print a grid i needed and it started to print in black but the remaining 90% of the page was green. The printer is still under warranty and i'd like to request a replacement printer.

Thank you,

Dave

This is not an issue with the print drivers, reinstalling will not help. It seems like a hardware issue with the printer and as it is under warranty, it can be replaced. Please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

Good afternoon,

I haven't called them yet but they are 80 miles away from me. Will I have to drive all the way there and bring my printer?

I also checked ALL the local stores near me and none of them have this printer (Envy 5055).

Thank you

You do not have to take the printer to a store. Once the replacement is arranged, the defective printer will be picked from your doorstep. Kindly contact the HP Support team for further details on the replacement process.

Good Morning Kumar,

Thank you for your reply. I just called them and they will have to call me back. I left my name, phone number and the reason I called (replace my Envy 5055 printer). My problem is that I am severely hearing impaired and hope I heard things correctly. I'll keep my fingers crossed that this will all work out ok. I'll keep you posted. Thank you.
