HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 All-in-One Printer

My printer suddenly stopped starting and displays the error code mentioned above. Unplugging the power cord, waiting—even for several days—and plugging it back in doesn't help. I'd appreciate any suggestions for a solution, as I recently purchased new original cartridges for the printer.

Hi @Chef039,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for your patience. Here’s how to address the blue screen error code B8A8ED92 on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 All-in-One Printer: This error typically indicates a firmware crash or hardware fault. Unfortunately, unplugging the printer alone often does not resolve it.

1. Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Leave the printer powered on and idle for at least 1 hour.
  2. With the printer still on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
  3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  4. Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  5. Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet (avoid power strips).
  6. Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  7. Turn the printer on (if it doesn’t start automatically).

This process helps clear residual power and may reset internal components

2. Update Firmware (If Accessible)

If the printer starts up normally after the reset:

  1. Open the HP Smart app on your computer.
  2. Select your printer > Advanced Settings.
  3. Go to Tools > Printer Updates > Check Now.
  4. Install any available firmware updates.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
