Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

When printing PDF files, the print is blurry -- appears as if a shadow exists below the proper text print.

1.) Using latest drivers on the printer (uninstalled printer and downloaded today 7/26/2020)

2.) Same issue with multiple computers - OS system and Windows

3.) Printing normal text with Word, etc is normal

4.) PDF files are not corrupted - print fine on other printer - CANON

What software are you printing the PDFs from? I have run into the issue a few times where one PDF program such as Adobe Acrobat Reader would provide unacceptable results and using another program such as Foxit PDF printer would work fine. If other documents print fine it is less likely to be a printer issue and more likely to be a conflict or corruption in the driver or the software.

Downloaded FOXit and printed -- same result.

EDIT:  I have also replaced the black toner cartridge and ran cleaning cycle a couple of times.

Can you post a sample example? Rereading your original post suggests that there might be a  fuser issue that is not showing on normal printing but on heavier toner applications you may be getting some ghosting or toner lift. One thing you can try is to set the paper type as heavy which will increase the fuser temperature or try different media as sometimes moisture content can cause a problem with printing.

this is a section of the PDF that was printed -- as stated earlier, it prints fine on another printer.

Appreciate your attention in looking at this

I should also mention, when printing from computer, using USB connection -- when printing from laptop, using wireless connection.

As the same file prints this way regardless of operating system on the LaserJet, but prints fine on the other printer -- somehow is has to be an issue with the LaserJet, just can't fathom what would be the issue.

Config Report -- shadow was from taking the picture

Config report did not post.  Have you tried restoring factory defaults yet? I would do that and then update the firmware if it is not the current one. Does i do this on all colors or only black? This type of defect we usually see when a cartridge drive is slipping or the calibration is bad, but again, if it works fine for word that seems like less of a possibility.

The pdf files were from a HP 6400 multi-function printer using a MAC Pro laptop.  The OS is updated as is the driver on the 6400.

PDF files from iPhone (picture saved as PDF) are also blurry - in color also

It appears there is an issue between the pdf and the HP Printer.  The scanned pdfs print ok on other printers.

Running out of ideas here.

Also -- restored factory defaults and firmware on printer are up to date.

Do you see the same defect with a PDF from a completely different source such as downloaded spec sheet from HP? This is a real puzzler. What about if you scan at a different resolution?
