I want to print a borderless label from Publisher 365 (105 * 48 mm). If I do not enable borderless printing, it will not print the edges, if I enable it, it will resize the label and print it in the wrong place and size.

Label in inches:

4.x1 x 1.9 inches

This size label, of course, will not print by itself - the dimensions are too small.

It is assumed that the labels are part of a larger sheet of paper.

Perhaps 10 labels to a sheet of "letter size" paper.

Which template are you using?

That should not make a difference, I think, but the overall size and print setup does depend on knowing the parameters of what you are using.

I used File > Print Printer Properties > Shortcut for "Everyday Printing".

No borderless and no adjustment to the margins in the publisher file / template / print job.

I was curious.

I don't usually use Publisher but thought it worth checking.

I downloaded an Avery Template that might be similar to what you are using - ten labels on a regular sheet of paper ("Letter" in my region).

The sample I created is a "somewhat" finished example showing a few examples - some text, an inserted photo, an address.

I don't actually have any label paper for the template - I did print the file and it appears the content would indeed "cover" the individual labels on a sheet of label paper.

Thanks for your help!

I want to use the Awery 3424 template: 105*48 mm A4 size. Unfortunately, this goes to the edge of the page.

If I don’t turn on the printer to ask for a borderless, it looks like this.

The sizes are good at this time, but it does not print the edges.

Attila7_1-1622573941935.png

If I enable borderless printing, it fills the page but enlarges the labels, the edges are not in the right place.

The image on the monitor is good, but the printer does not print well.

Update

Still poking at it out of curiosity - not sure I have anything useful to offer at this point.

What I am seeing in my version of Publisher (Professional 2019) is far different from what you show in your first image.

I am imaging the paper size is A4 portrait (as shown on the cover of the label paper package for this template) - your image is landscape and paper size is "what" ?

One thing I notice - and this is not unique to Publisher - inserting images is problematic unless the image exactly matches the shape of the label.  The fit issue can go beyond removing the Aspect Ratio when inserting and manually resizing the image.

If - for example - your image does not fit the space allocated for the single label - try formatting the background of the label cell as a gray color to fill in any possible gaps created by the image not "fitting" the space.  Not ideal - but it works.

Hopefully, someone who's done this using Publisher 365 - and is closer to your region - will jump in and "save the day"...

The paper size is landscape A4   29.7 x 21 cm.
Label size 4.8 x 10.5 cm, there is one label in the picture:

Attila7_0-1622740804494.png

The labels are textboxes with colored backgrounds, I took the text off of them, leaving only two smaller images.

If I print only one black frame without pictures, it will still work incorrectly.

OK..

Keep in mind I JUST started using Publisher... You very likely know this product better than I.  Smiling.

For example, I am working in the downloaded 3424 Avery template that has been converted to Publisher.

My measurements in inches - not a problem though in some examples, any differences might be apparent.

Is the border boundary inside the frame / cell edge?

I am not sure this is a valid question - it does seem to make a difference in the outcome.

Sorry, I can't explain properly, unfortunately my English isn't good enough.

I can set everything well in Publisher, the print image is displayed well. Borderless printing is set, I want to print to the edge of the page. The image looks like it should be on paper.  The black lines are the label borders. I want a colorful background, I should print to the edge of the cell.

Attila7_0-1622983630014.png

However, this will be the case when printing. The edges of the labels appear to lag behind and the black frames are also larger than the size of the label.

Attila7_1-1622984251456.png

I tried the Avery online design program. I can't print the resulting PDF correctly, the result is the same as with Publisher, the label borders are in the wrong place.

Thanks,

Edits / Update

Typing on the "fly" - forgive any redundancies or errors...

Mostly at this point I'm doing this for "me" - I've little hope of solving your problem, I think.

So, in the spirit of sharing...

I have finally taken the step to order some A4 printer paper.

Some questions just demand this "not USA" standard paper size.

Paper is coming from overseas and won't be here soon enough for this conversion.  (Mid-July is the delivery window.)

So, what?

Nothing, just that at some point, I'll be able to test an A4 paper setup a bit more thoroughly.

What else?

After playing with this a bit more, one way I've found to line up the label cells (individual labels on the template) is to add the border to the cell using "format" Shapes (example posted in a previous message) - with the Border tucked INSIDE.

Size of the border "line" can be adjusted to whatever width you want.  In my current template (not ready to post yet), I've added a couple of borders to different "cells" - One of my test "line" sizes is expanded to 7.0 (nice and fat line).

To the cell, then, I've inserted an image that I made from one of your posted images - "Just label image" and no border on the image file.

Insert the borderless image into the template and placed it inside the label border (of one of the cells).

Next, fit the size.

Looks fine.

Would it print?

No idea - you know --- no A4 paper to test.

It's a lot of work and frankly I'm not even sure the method is "the way to do this".

So, at the moment, I am guessing ...

Open template in Publisher

Add to each "cell" a border that is "inside" the line / boundary of that cell.

Add "thickness" to the border to make it as thick as you like and in the color you want.

Insert a "borderless" saved image file into each cell and fit the size of the image to lie inside the border.

Remember, too, to set the margins for the document to zero.

Original Content

Ah!  It is not the command of the language that is lacking!  Your English is very good.

More it is perhaps more the language of Publisher - where I lack skill .

The original template is in measurements I do not use and my software does not use - all is converted to inches.

It is just math and should be OK.

The actual template (pulled from Avery Germany site) is in .doc - translating it to .docx and then opening the file in Publisher leaves the labels misaligned - these have to be shifted.  This, at least, is not an obvious failure point - the template fits the "page size" (paper) and must simply be moved carefully into proper position.

We do not have the same tools - different printers.

I don't any the 3424 label paper (or any A4 paper, for that matter).  I must use only the software to guess about the results.

I am curious about the issue and so will try -

The difficulty is on my side.

My attempts are a poor substitute for someone who actually knows Publisher and uses your toolset.

OK...

It sounds like you are adding the border to the image to decorate and "outline" each label.

I have (so far) found a few ways to add a border to the cell - this appears to be more accurate than inserting an image to which the border has already been attached and saved as part of the image.

Right-Click on a single "cell"

Format Auto Shape

Tab Colors and Lines

Section Fill

Select the color and fill type

Or, better for this use - Select "No Color"

Tab Colors and Lines

Section Line

Select Color and other line attributes (parts of the line)

Remember to increase the thickness of the line.

Select "Draw border inside frame"

AND / OR

Tab Colors and Lines

Section Line

Select box BorderArt

After the cell border / background color is edited, a "borderless" copy of the image of the label is inserted and resized to fit in the space inside the cell border.

Another method might be to deconstruct the label image and place the wanted parts inside each label cell.

This is particularly unsatisfactory since the label image already includes the gradient background.

I am somewhat out of ideas at this point.

Our tools are very different and everything else is odd, "not quite the same", and dependent on a bit of guessing.

I think more on it and see if I can think of anything else that might be useful.

If you use the 5126 template, I think you can try it in letter size as well.

Attila7_1-1623046026284.png

I made a label with a green background on which I put some text on the edge. If I use the A4 equivalent of this label, I cannot print it properly (template 6134). Can you print letter size properly?

OK - I have been thinking that you are using Microsoft Publisher to create a label set using the Avery Template 3424.

That should work, I think, if you adjust the margins in the document (label set of 12 labels).

I have used the no-longer-available home download version of the Avery Design and Print Software.

I have access to - but do not use - the online version of the software.

Using the online design software, can you adjust the margins that control the print area?

The table in the template, whether it be "online' or using other software must be compatible with the content.

The Test

The home version of the software - download and open Avery 5126 as .doc (no conversion to .docx)

The test won't complete / print because because the margins in the document are already not compatible with placing content on the edge of the table (cell / area in the label meant to be used).

The original margins built into the template are not compatible with the printer.

So - what to do?

"Fixing" the margins in the document changes them to something the printer can handle.

It does not allow the table margins to be set to zero all around the four edges.

Without chasing this all the way to its conclusion in the document and opening the template in the Avery software,

I think what you are trying to do in the cell is not compatible with the intent of the Avery software nor is it compatible with Word.  Adding text to the edge of the cell (individual label in the template) is (I think) not supported.

The table structure (that creates the "label" into which you would enter content) is not meant to be used as Borderless.

Check the Table Properties to confirm the size of the table.

What to do?

Decide how to proceed:

  • Consider building your own table in a Word or Publisher document - create the table Properties to match what you want.  This might be the only way to be sure you are creating a table in which the margins are as you need and the table properties will support what you require.
  • Use the Avery software as intended, honoring the restrictions.
  • When printing, consider that the paper type selection might impact whether you can "print to the edge" of the paper.

For example the OfficeJet Pro 9025 is perfectly happy to print borderless as long as the restrictions are honored.

Example

Select Tray = 2 (this is the tray that must be used for all "not plain paper" uses)

Select Paper Type = Brochure (borderless is restricted to particular paper types in this printer)

Select Borderless = ON

The Template 3424 is built with a different table structure (of course) and that of the shipping label.

Looking at the document file for the template shows that the Layout > Cell Margins are set to 0 (zero) top and bottom - and .08 at left and right.  This is a possible source of a conflict when you add content and then try to print text on the very edge of the cell (individual label).

At this point I do think you should build your own table and see if you can then arrange the content as you wish.

Keep in mind the probable restrictions for paper type, tray, and paper size when trying to print borderless.

The design itself - just based on my use of  Word and Publisher - this design might be made easier using Publisher.

Why?

The main consideration, I think is that you are trying to add a border to an image from which you wish to make a collection of labels.

Using Publisher,

Each cell can be assigned a border and that border can be made to be whatever color or design you wish.

Next. the image can be Inserted, positioned in the cell, and made to fit "slightly overlapping the border.

While the image is still selected, Tab Home > Section Arrange > Send Backward

This tucks the image edges behind the border.

Example

Avery_3424_A4_5_1Avery_3424_A4_5_1

Assuming the table and your print setup allows borderless printing, that might work.

Will it print as expected?

Not sure.
