I just bought a brand new Envy Photo 6230 from the HP website. I am getting the same problem. It's 2017 and you would expect printer manufacturers to know how to build a printer by now.

I will never buy an HP printer again, and will recommend everyone who asks to avoid them like the plague.

This doesn’t work. We all know it because we’ve each been screwing around with our brand new printers for several hours. When HP finally sent my “overnight” “updated” cartridges I got 50 SHEETS printed. Don’t insult us with meaningless “solutions”. Fix your printer or stop selling it. Never, ever, ever buying another HP item. It’s just disrespectful to the customer.

Had the same problem today 11-26-2017.  Tried the reset and was the same.

Finally took out the ink, got message put in cartridges.  Put in black, got Do not.... , took out black put in color, system went through setup perfectly. Put in black afterwards, works great. Hope it helps, maybe tech can see a fix.

Does anybody else keep getting emails from HP Support asking them to give kudos & say what a great experience the forum has been? Well, I returned the second printer for exactly the same error msgs & ridiculously excessive ink usage.

I have the same problem with my new 8710 printer......wasted over 2 hours trying to get this piece of junk to work.

I spent two hours with HP support where they tried everything from re-inserting the cartridges to remote controling my computer and running some diagnostic software on the printer.

In the end, they gave up and told me they would send me new cartridges.

That worked. It turns out this issue is caused by faulty cartridges.

Why did HP support not know this from the start?

I still had ridiculously high ink usage after they sent replacement cartridges. Using XL replacement cartridges (600 pages B&W & 300 color). I printed a b&w, text only, manual. I only got 300 pages b&w AND it emptied my color cartridge.

Send it back. I researched & found that RECONDITIONED Envy 7640 has the ink problem fixed. It’s worked within specs for several weeks now. I’ll never buy a new HP... if I even but again. This has been a truly degrading & disrespect process... and it’s just a printer!

I have the same issues. The brand new printer will not recognise the setup cartridges or new HP 303 cartridges purchased.
