Honestly, call HP about this. This is how to contact HP support: www.hp.com/go/totalcare (click on Printers & Monitors, there is a phone number on the resulting page).
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

I've had the same problem for a while. After power-cycling, the printer would work for a few weeks, now nothing helps, so I had to wire it in to the ethernet with an RJ-45 cable. Of course by now the warranty has expired. Although I'm pretty sure that I first reported this while still in warranty, I can't prove it, so I've given up on the wireless feature; and probably on HP Printers from now on.

Sorry but all you get on this forum is someone from HP acting amused that one of their printers is not working properly. I believe there is 19 pages alone for this problem and all you get is contact HP Support.
Well I'm fed up with this and I hope everyone else is also. Maybe it's time we contact an agency to get a better solution. You would think that HP does not want this kind of bad publicity. But hey, we are the consumers and we rely on word of mouth for good products. So let me hear if anyone else feels we are getting ripped off.
And before any wise cracks come out, yes I tried the #3 and #6 reboot, and yes I tried the bluetooth off. So in short, I have tried all these remedys and still no fix!
Maybe a well televised consumer reporter can get something done that we can't?

I notice that the forum lists me as a "student"; I never entered this, and I don't know where it came to that conclusion, but chalk this up the the general incompetence that is characteristic of the consumer PC industry. I am actually a seasoned IT Pro which is why I triy to solve bugs on my own rather than call tech support right away. I am also extremely busy so I lost track of the warranty expiration, and am content for now to use this wired rather than wireless. But I would gladly join you in trying to get HP to act responsibly and issue a field repair / recall for this bug; feel free to contact me directly (jm at optonline dot net).
Hewlett-Packard once was synonymous with top quality reliable electronics; I relied on that reputation to buy a printer without doing my homework ( maybe that's why they list me as a "student" 8?). Sadly, "HP" is now just another empty label slapped onto shoddy imports.

I have had trouble getting this printer to work without help since the first week I owned it. Like others, I had to reboot every time I attempted to print wirelessly. Now I am getting the Remove USB error and the printer cannot find my network at all. Based on what I see in forums, this has been a problem with the C309A for quite some time and there is no true fix. It is very disappointing to see that HP has not been proactive with resolving this issue. Having no luck with any of the suggested fixes, I will continue use this as a wired printer until my remaining supply of ink is gone. Then this piece of JUNK will be tossed out for the trash that it is!

I don't know yet if the error is gone, but that was a reset I did not know how to do and I'm optimistic about thew outcome, because I have never had a problem with this wireless printer until a power outage then I started getting this annoying error asking me to unplug something from usb when there was nothing plugged in, I've never even used the usb ports on this thing. I use wireless and only annopyance I've had is when printing from one pc then trying to priknt from a second pc on my network I have to turn off & back on printer or it has a connection error saying it's in use by another pc.

I believe this could be a hardware issue with the card reader board.
The Wireless card PHYSICALLY connects to the main board through the card reader so if the card reader board is acting up, it could potentially screw the wireless card.
I'm testing currently but i'll only be able to provide an answer if customer wants to spend the money on this potential solution 😞
usually it's cheaper to just buy a new printer rather than spend all the time/money troubleshooting.
of course, if it's under warranty, get HP to send you a new body

I have all the same issues with the printer not finding the wireless network and the USB Removal issue...Don't want to fumble around HP customer care so I wanted to know did anyone get it replaced by HP, even after being out of warranty?
Thanks.
