HP Smart Tank Plus 570 Wireless All-in-One

Periodically, a job will not print and error message says "Check Cartridge Alignment".  When I look inside, I see that the cartridge is not quite centered on a metal piece.  With my finger, I can move it approximately 1/16 inch, center it, and printer works fine for a while then same thing occurs and I repeat process.  When I purchased the printer and the problem first started, I remembered someone in a product review had complained about this issue.  It occurred infrequently for me so I tolerated it, but now, after warranty just expired, it's occurring more often.   I wonder if this was a design defect, does HP have a solution for it, and/or does anyone out there have a solution or comment?

I understand you're encountering a recurring "Check Cartridge Alignment" error on your HP Smart Tank Plus 570, and you've noticed the cartridge carriage is slightly off-center. Let's walk through some steps to resolve this issue.
 

Reset the Printer

A simple reset can often resolve alignment and carriage issues:

  • Turn off the printer using the Power button.
  • Unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet (avoid power strips).
  • Turn the printer back on.

Check Cartridge Installation

Misaligned or loosely seated cartridges can cause alignment errors:

  • Open the ink cartridge access door.
  • Wait for the carriage to stop moving.
  • Gently press down and re-seat each cartridge to ensure it's properly installed.
  • Make sure there’s no protective tape left on the cartridges.

Align the Printhead Using HP Smart App

  • Load plain white paper into the input tray.
  • Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
  • Select your printer > Printer Settings > Print Quality Tools > Align Printheads.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the alignment.

Inspect the Carriage Mechanism

Since you mentioned manually adjusting the carriage helps temporarily:

  • Check for any obstructions, debris, or ink buildup on the carriage path or metal rod.
  • Lightly clean the rod with a lint-free cloth and a small amount of isopropyl alcohol.
  • Ensure the carriage moves smoothly from side to side.

Update Firmware
