Is there anyway to set up a password lock for my printer to stop other people using it?

If the printer usage thief is using the printer wirelessly, change the wireless password and do not share it.

Wireless Printer Setup (Windows)

Easy and done.

Password on the Printer

The problem with a Printer password, that is, a password for the printer itself:

I use this option as a matter of home office security - printer password is not a bad thing; it is a "think first, then do" thing.

The password can be lost and you cannot use the printer.

If you lose track of the password, parts of your printer (perhaps most of the setup) are unusable by everyone, including you.  The password is not easily recovered and would likely leave you without the use of your printer, at least until it could be completely reset by someone who knows the procedure.

If you use a password, it is in place for everyone, including you.  That is fine - you know the password -- but it is an extra step for some types of access and not all software knows how to deal with the printer password.  You might have to stand in front of the printer and enter the password.

If the printer password option is supported,

and

If your printer is on the network,

If you think it would be helpful to your situation,

you might be able to set / configure / manage the setting in the Embedded Web Server.

 User Guide

Search for and read about: Embedded Web Server (EWS)

Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Look for Tab Settings > Security (wording varies) > Administrative Password

Read, then do.

Remember the warnings about losing that password: Do not lose the printer password.

Alternatives...

You could try removing and hiding the paper.  If the "printer usage" thief does not have his own paper, that would at least slow down the culprit.

You might just switch off the printer when you are not using it.

If you have people sneaking around in your personal territory, consider the unusual step of unplugging the printer and hiding the power cord.  This is a bit extreme and leaving the printer "off" for long periods of time is not your best option.  Nonetheless, it might keep casual "printer usage" thieves at bay.
