I also have the problem with old vs. new ink cartridges. They are 902 vs. 950. Both are the same size, shape, weight and have the same hook up knob; everything is exact except for one has printed on the label a black circle with a K in it and the other a black pentagram. Please tell me why I can't use up the old cartridge

Mainly because the printer requires the number cartridge that is specified in their manual. Different ink jets, different electrical specs, different firing temperatures... stuff like that.
