HP 8600
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just installed a 2nd tray on my 8600 so that I can print out legal PDF docs.  It won't do it.  It recognizes the tray but will only print one sided.  When I select duplex I get a little error box that says "There are one or more conflicting settings.  One of the conflicting settings is:  Paper size: legal  Two sided printing: flip on long edge"  Then it gives me the choice of automatically resolving "the issue" or doing it manually.  Which ever way removes the duplex choice.  I tried changing from long edge to short edge.  Same thing.   I can duplex out of tray 1 without any problems.  I have looked on the forum but the only answers I see about this involve MACs not PCs.  This is very frustrating.  Any and all help welcomed.

Thanks for the reply.   It's not the answer I wanted for sure.  I bought tray 2 expressly for legal work printing so I'm not happy about it.

An alternative might be to print the odd pages, reload them in the paper try and print the even pages.

The Officejet Pro 8720, 8730 and 8740 do duplex printing (and scanning) of legal sized documents.

Thanks for the suggestion.  For a 32 page doc it sounds labor intensive but maybe worth trying.

Acrobat DC has an option a bit buried that allows selection of odd or even pages.  It is not nearly as convenient as automatic duplex printing but easier than manually picking pages 1,3,5,7....

I did see that when I was trying to duplex but since I was so very determined that I *would* make it duplex I didn't try it.  Now I shall.  Thank you for your interest and your help.  I really appreciate it.

Thanks for posting this, Expert Bob. I demonstrated temporary insanity for more than an hour "by doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results" (credit: Albert Einstein) with our OJ Pro 8600 while trying to print a document in duplex mode on legal paper. Eventually I found your post. I suggest that HP add code to the Windows driver to display a dialog that sez that duplex mode legal paper handling is not supported, rather than "There are one or more conflicting settings." This isn't much better than the Apollo Guidance Computer's 1202 Program Alarm, especially considering that the AGC was placed in service in 1966.
