I have a document stuck in the deleting mode in the print Q, and I am unable to get it to finish deleting, and cannot print any new document, as the error message comes up.  I have tried clearing/canceling the document.  I have turned off and unplugged both the computer and printer, and restarted.  Still stuck in "deleting" mode.

Hi @JMPMcD,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It can be frustrating when a document gets stuck in the print queue, preventing you from printing new documents. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue.

Restart the Print Spooler Service: Sometimes, restarting the print spooler service can help clear out stuck print jobs. Here's how:

  • Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.
  • Type "services.msc" and press Enter to open the Services window.
  • Scroll down and find the "Print Spooler" service.
  • Right-click on it and select "Restart". If it's not already running, you can start it from here.

Clear the Print Queue Manually: You can try clearing the print queue manually. Here's how:

  • Open the Control Panel and go to "Devices and Printers".
  • Right-click on your printer and select "See what's printing".
  • Click on the stuck document to highlight it.
  • Click on "Document" in the top menu and select "Cancel". If the document doesn't cancel, you might need to try this multiple times or move to the next step.

Delete Print Spool Files: Sometimes, print spool files can get corrupted, causing documents to get stuck. You can try deleting these files:

  • Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.
  • Type "%windir%\System32\spool\PRINTERS" (without quotes) and press Enter.
  • Delete all files in this folder. You might need administrator permissions to do this.

Update Printer Drivers: Outdated or corrupted printer drivers can sometimes cause printing issues. Try updating your printer drivers to the latest version. You can usually do this from the HP website.

Use a Print Troubleshooter: Windows has built-in troubleshooters that can help diagnose and fix printing problems. You can try running the printer troubleshooter to see if it can identify and resolve the issue.

Reset the Printer: If none of the above steps work, you can try resetting your printer to its default settings. Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on how to do this.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
