Hello!
I can't connect my printer to any of my devices, - I have tried to connect it on my phone first, then on my computer, following the steps HP smart app sets. I already spent 2,5 h on this setup, and I don't think it's how long the setup has to take.  It doesn't appear on my computer, but it did appear on my phone (I think so at least, even though the name is not really that of the app suggests), but it then asks for a password, which I don't have. Have tried to find it on Bluetooth as well, no luck there. Both tutorial videos and setup guide are useless, as they just say you should connect your device to your printer using wifi, but don't really show HOW, if it doesn't appear.

Hi @ElinaS,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating when the setup process takes longer than expected. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the connection issues with your HP printer.

Check Printer Connectivity

  • Ensure Printer is On and Ready: Make sure your printer is powered on and not displaying any error messages.
  • Check Wi-Fi Connection: Confirm that your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your devices. You can usually find this information on the printer's display or settings menu.

Find Printer Password

  • Check Printer’s Manual: Sometimes, the default password or setup information is in the printer’s manual.
  • Printer's Display: If your printer has a screen, navigate to the network settings to find the Wi-Fi password or setup instructions.

Connect via HP Smart App

  • Reinstall HP Smart App: Delete and reinstall the HP Smart app on your phone or computer.
  • Add Printer: Open the app, and try adding the printer again. Follow the on-screen instructions for connecting via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

Use Printer’s Setup Menu

  • Direct Wi-Fi Connection: Some printers allow you to connect directly using a temporary Wi-Fi network. Check the printer's display for a Wi-Fi setup option and connect your device to the printer's network.

Troubleshoot Connection Issues

  • Restart Devices: Restart your printer, router, and devices.
  • Update Firmware: Ensure your printer’s firmware is up-to-date. Check the HP website for updates.
  • Check Network Settings: Make sure there are no network restrictions or firewall settings blocking the printer’s connection.

Manual IP Address Setup

  • Find Printer’s IP Address: You can often find this on the printer’s display or network settings.
  • Add Printer Manually: On your computer, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Add a Printer, and choose the option to add a printer using its IP address.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
