Unfortunately I was not able to solve this. I saw similar results as noted in previous posts
The set up is
- Printer: HP Photosmart C7280 All-in-One Printer (old I know)
- MacOS Catalina 10.15.7
- Wireless set up
Prior to 10/22/2020, this was working fine for me. Was able to print last week.
Then starting today was not able to print, while getting lots of errors
I have both a Windows machine and Mac Laptops
I am able to print from the Windows machine but like most people here cannot print from my Mac Laptops
I did Call HP to see if anything could be done
- In order to talk to a person on the phone, you need to go to HP's site and create a CASE
- You will need your Printer's Model # and Serial Number to try to create a CASE
- If you don't have a CASE # they will basically not talk to you
- Number is 888-673-3546 (general support)
- When you call, expect to wait at least 15+ minutes
- I had to call 2-3 times because my 1st call was dropped (probably on the phone 1-2 hrs)
When I spoke to the Printer department, transferred to the Software department, after she checked with lots of people on their side the response was
- If your printer happens to be OLD like mine, you are probably out of luck. They will just say your printer is Obsolete and they will not work on fixes for it anymore
- Even though it works just fine, they will not support it anymore
- If you have an Old printer and it is out of warranty, they will only help debug you if you pay a $19.99 support fee.
- You can pay this fee and still not get helped which is unfortunate
- Initially they were saying this was a Network problem. I don't believe this is a network problem since I can print from my Windows machine, so I did not pay for the support
Seems like Summary of what others have seen now
- Appears to be some Apple / HP issue, because printing from my Windows machine works just fine
- If you have an older printer, you will be out of luck trying to get help since they will just say they don't support old printers (even if they work just fine now)
- Could be an Apple issue, but previous posts above had Apple saying this is an HP issue, so seems too bad this probably won't get fixed
- Support person said that "newer" printers were working just fine, so implies to me they just want you to buy a new printer and not support any older ones now
Some of the errors I have seen
1. Error when trying to print
2. Expired certificate message when you try re-installing the certificates
3. Error when you print in some cases. I don't believe this message is correct because things were working just fine last week with the same files
4. If you try to hook up my Printer using USB to my Mac laptop using the HP Smart App, it basically won't connect
Unfortunately I didn't solve this issue. Will probably just use it on windows until it stops working
Maybe we will be lucky and Apple or HP will fix this, but not looking hopeful

Click on the Apple symbol in the upper left corner of your Mac screen, then click on System Preferences.
Click on Printers and Scanners. You will see a list of installed printers. If the printer you're having trouble with is displayed then click on the "-" (minus) symbol to uninstall it first.
Click on the "+" symbol to add a new printer. When the new printer is found, be sure to select AirPrint in the "USE:" field.
