Hello Jon
I don't have any answers; and I have googled and found the below (which isn't much) for what it's worth. I am not an HP employee nor an expert. Good luck.
Here is a link; it may be of help:
HP Printers - Horizontal Borders and Gridlines in Excel Do Not Print in Windows 8 or 7
This document is for Windows 8 and 7, Excel 2013 and 2010, and the following HP printers: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04491099
----------------------------------------------------------
All of the following, I copied from a thread spanning two years from 08-2014 to 08- 2016. NOTE the time gap until now. Did you upgrade to Win 10 and it just started. You probably are the first of dozens that WILL encounter this new problem. Just saying.
---------------------------------------------------------------
All of the following quotes from others, I copied from a thread spanning two years from 08-2014 to 08- 2016:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I saved the excel docs in XPS form and now the grid lines all print. I don't know why but this worked for me.
And maybe another workaround: "In Page Layout tab to "Scale to Fit" and change 100% to 99%. This worked for me."
I've done some experimenting. If Print Quality is set to Best the gridlines are printed correctly. Why is that? BTW, I am using Excel 2000.
Alternatively, you can also use any other border style in Excel and it should print fine. I would appreciate hearing if this does not fix your problem or you are having a problem on anything other then Excel, border "Style 2", in "Normal" or "Draft" mode.
I hear your frustration. The feedback I'm hearing is to work around the problem by using a border style other than style 2 or to print in Best mode. I work within the Inkjet team but I assure that I have passed the details from this thread on to the SW team. As soon as I hear anything back I will let you know......
After much playing and a hint from my sister, I have found a way to print all the gridlines in my spreadsheets. I put a border around the page limit, printed in draft mode, and it worked. Of course, if you span two or more pages, you will have to replicate the border limits, I would imagine. Haven't really tried that yet
I was ready to take the printer back when my daughter, who taught 8th graders excel, gave me the solution. Just highlight the fields containing your data, click on format, cells, border, outline, inside and then the lines will all print properly. I am surprised that no one from HP came up with the solution.
I was replying to a prior post where the poster's daughter taught Excel to 8th graders... this worked for me: Highlight print area, right click, format cells, click outline & inside, Ok and then print.
Some of my gridlines were printing before but not all of the vertical ones and It had been driving me crazy for months... this worked!!
No need for all the highlighting, formatting, clicking, etc. Just print in Best Mode.
I had the same (and other) problems with my Envy 5530 and am the original auther of this thread. The only solution offered was to upgrade the ink setting from "normal" to "best". Good luck.
Yes, that worked, but of course its slower and uses more ink.
Yup, this is what we are stuck with. I junked my Envy 5530 and purchased a HP Officejet 5740 only to discover that printer HAS THE SAME PROBLEM!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My experience in Excel 2010 is that the problem only occurs in documents that originated in xls format, whether currently in xls or xlsm, and the problem goes away if you delete Print_Titles.
PROBLEM:
Workbooks originally created in xls format, containing Print_Titles, do not print gridlines.
SOLUTION:
Open the problem workbook.
Page Layout, Page Setup, Sheet, check Print Gridlines, OK
File, Options, Advanced , Display Options For This Workup, Show Sheet Tabs
R-click the sheet tab, Move or Copy...., To book (new book), check Create copy, OK
Close the old book.
Save the new book, replace old.
Gridlines print in the new book. Simply copying and pasting a sheet to a new another sheet in the same book or a new book doesn't work.
