HP Desktop. Running Windows 10. HP OfficeJet Pro 6968. Thunderbird 59.2.1

If I print something in Office. No issues.
If I print a page(s) off of the internet, no issues.

If I try to print an email from Thunderbird all I get is blank pages. The printer will sound as if it's printing, but all I get is a blank page.

Tried to copy the contents of the email to Office and print it that way. Again. It sounds as if it is printing, but all I get is blank pages.

@Dogjudge1

I had not used Thunderbird for a while - in general, my needs are met using the web interface for my various emails and the standard installed "Windows Mail" program.  I also have Outlook installed.  Lots of email clients.

Thunderbird is an old favorite and uses (in my case) the simple-to-set-up POP email settings for one of my email addresses.  Thunderbird also supports IMAP

Once I started the Thunderbird client, it was obvious that an "update" was needed.  Several update iterations later, I am now running Thunderbird 60.3.1

I cannot reproduce your issue.   (Not surprising but worth a quick mention.)

I can offer the following limited suggestions:

I talked to someone who also uses Thunderbird client and he did mention that blank pages can be a result of the Page Preview> Scaling not matching the (selected) size of paper.  A simple fix for this might be to use File > Print Preview > scaling to "Fit page" or "Shrink to fit" (wording might vary?).

If you use File > Print , the control for the paper size falls to the Properties button.

For example:

File > Print > opens printer menu > Select / Adjust Printer Name

Click Properties box

tab Paper / Quality

Depending on you printer software, Paper sizes might be in that menu or under "Advanced"

No Joy?

Content might be presented in a non-True-Type font.  Printer supports True-Type fonts.  Some "odd" fonts may not print.

What to do?

Save the content into a Word document >

Change the fonts to a supported font

And / OR

Export (Save) the file into a PDF format file

Print as Image

If the file will not print due to unusual content (odd fonts, color schemes, tables, other oddities), print the file as an Image.  Image printing does not require the printer software to translate file content.

Reinstall / Update your PDF Reader (Adobe Reader DC / Foxit Reader)

  • HINT: Watch out for and UNCHECK unwanted extra software

Open the offending PDF file in Adobe Reader DC > File > Print > Advanced >>

  1. Set the printer select the colors (Optional)
  2. Print the PDF file as an image
