I'm having the exact same problem with my Officejet Pro 6978. I went through the reset steps you outlined, however, when I try to print the network configurations, I get the "there is a problem with the printer or print system. turn off and then on again...etc" error message. I keep going in this continuous loop, where I always end up at this error message. I'm also unable to remove the ink cartridges, since the carriage won't move. Is there a tier 2 support team I can contact?

If the issue persists after attempting the troubleshooting steps, I suggest you contact HP Support for Service Options
1) Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/
2) Select your product type below.
3) Enter the serial of your device.
4) Select the country from the drop-down.
5) Select the chat or get phone number options based on your preferences.
6) Fill the web-form and proceed further.
