I have a message of a paper jam on my printer.   I have done everything and looked everywhere for the paper.  I have restarted the printer numerous times (which worked once) but message came back and will not clear.  I do not know what else to do.

@LindaH5056, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Power Off and Disconnect

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Leave it off for a minute or two before plugging it back in and turning it on. This can sometimes reset the error message.

Check the Paper Path Thoroughly

  • Open all accessible paper trays and compartments. This includes the front, back, and any side panels. Make sure to check for paper stuck in any area, including rollers.
  • Look for any small bits of paper or debris that may have torn off during a previous jam. Even a small piece can trigger the jam error.
  • Rollers: Check if any of the rollers look dirty or obstructed. If they are, gently clean them using a soft cloth.

Check the Rear Paper Tray

  • Many printers have a rear access door for paper jams. Open this and check for any paper stuck there.

Check for Misalignment

  • Ensure the paper is correctly loaded into the input tray. If it's skewed, it may trigger the jam error. Make sure the paper is aligned and not overloaded.

Clear the Print Queue

  • Sometimes, a stuck print job can cause a jam error even if there’s no paper jam. On your computer, open the printer queue and cancel any pending print jobs.
  • On Windows: Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Right-click your printer > See what's printing. Cancel any tasks.
  • On Mac: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > Select your printer > Open Print Queue.

Check the Sensor

  • Sometimes, a paper jam error can be caused by a sensor malfunction. If you're comfortable, you might try gently cleaning the sensors (usually located in the paper path) with a lint-free cloth. Check your printer's manual for sensor locations.

Run Printer Diagnostics

  • Many HP printers offer built-in diagnostic tools.
    • Open the printer’s control panel or HP Smart app (if installed) and look for a diagnostic option.
    • You can also visit HP’s website for specific troubleshooting tools for the Envy 7855.

Factory Reset

  • As a last resort, you can try performing a factory reset on the printer. This will erase all settings and preferences, so you'll need to set it up again afterward.
    • Go to Settings > Restore Defaults on the printer’s menu.

Update Firmware

  • Make sure your printer's firmware is up to date. Sometimes, a bug in older firmware can cause errors that aren't related to actual hardware issues.
    • You can check HP’s website for the latest firmware or use the HP Smart app to update it.
