I recently purchased an HP Envy 6400e but I cannot print anything in color from my MacBook. Does anyone happen to know of a solution to this? If these printers are unable to print in color from Mac then that should be stated on the box so the public will know.

Hi @mikemarshall,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the HP ENVY 6452e All-in-One Printer should be able to print in color from your MacBook Pro. If you're having trouble printing in color, here are some steps to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Check Printer Settings on Your MacBook:

  • Open the document or photo you want to print.
  • Go to "File" > "Print."
  • In the print dialog box, ensure that the printer selected is the "HP ENVY 6452e."
  • Click on "Show Details" to expand the print options.
  • Under the "Presets" menu, select "Color" or "Color Matching," and ensure that it is set to print in color, not grayscale or black and white.

2. Update or Reinstall the Printer Driver:

  • Go to the Apple Menu > System Settings (or System Preferences on older macOS versions).
  • Click on Printers & Scanners.
  • Select the HP ENVY 6452e printer from the list and click the “-” button to remove it.
  • Restart your MacBook.
  • Re-add the printer by clicking the “+” button and selecting your HP printer. Ensure that the printer driver that appears is the HP one, not AirPrint.
  • You can also visit the HP support website to download and install the latest drivers for your printer.

3. Check HP Smart App Settings:

  • Open the HP Smart app on your MacBook.
  • Go to the Settings or Preferences section.
  • Check the print settings and ensure color printing is enabled.

4. Reset the Printing System:

  • Go to the Apple Menu > System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click (or Control-click) on the printer list.
  • Select Reset printing system.
  • Confirm to reset the printing system. This action will remove all printers and scanners. Re-add your HP ENVY 6452e afterward.

5. Check for macOS Updates:

  • Make sure your macOS is up to date by going to the Apple Menu > System Settings > Software Update.
  • If there are any updates available, install them and restart your MacBook.

6. Use a Different Application:

  • Try printing from a different application to see if the issue is specific to one app. For example, if you were using Preview, try using Word or another app to print.

7. Test Print Directly from the Printer:

  • Print a color test page directly from the printer to ensure the printer itself is functioning correctly.
  • You can do this from the printer's control panel under "Tools" or "Reports" > "Print Quality Report."

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
