Hi @miraaaee,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To connect your HP DeskJet 2336 printer to your MacBook with macOS 15.1.1 (Sequoia), follow these steps.
Check Printer Connections:
- Ensure your HP DeskJet 2336 is properly connected to the MacBook either via USB or Wi-Fi (depending on the model and your setup).
- If it's a USB connection, make sure the cable is secure and the printer is powered on.
- If it's a wireless connection, verify that both your printer and MacBook are on the same Wi-Fi network.
Install the Latest HP Printer Drivers:
- Via HP Smart: Download and install the HP Smart app from the Mac App Store, which will guide you through the setup process and ensure the proper drivers are installed.
- Link: HP Smart on Mac App Store.
- Via HP Website: Go to the HP Support website and search for your printer model (HP DeskJet 2336) to download the latest macOS drivers and software.
Add the Printer in macOS:
- Open System Settings on your MacBook.
- Go to Printers & Scanners.
- Click the + button to add a new printer.
- If the printer appears in the list, select it. If it doesn't, you may need to install drivers from HP's website or the HP Smart app.
Reset Printing System (if necessary):
- If the printer still isn't connecting, try resetting the print system:
- Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click (or Control-click) on any printer in the list and select Reset printing system.
- Confirm the reset and add the printer again by clicking the +.
Check Print Queue and Reboot:
- After adding the printer, ensure there are no stuck print jobs in the queue by going to System Settings > Printers & Scanners, selecting your printer, and clicking Open Print Queue.
- Restart your MacBook and printer to ensure they properly recognize each other.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for replying. The printer is connected to my MacBook M1 but the printing job isn’t working. Do you have any drivers/softwares to fix the issue of connection compatibility between external USB and Mac?

Hi @miraaaee,
Thank you for your response,
Here are some advanced troubleshooting steps to resolve the printing issue between your HP DeskJet 2336 and your MacBook running macOS 15.1.1 (Sequoia).
Verify USB Compatibility
- Ensure you're using a high-quality USB-C to USB-A adapter (if required) that supports data transfer, not just charging.
- Test the USB cable and adapter on another device to confirm they're functioning correctly.
Update macOS and Printer Firmware
- Update macOS:
- Go to System Settings > General > Software Update to ensure you're running the latest updates for macOS 15.1.1.
- Update Printer Firmware:
- Visit the HP Support website and check for any firmware updates for your HP DeskJet 2336.
Reset Printer to Factory Settings
- Turn off the printer.
- Disconnect it from power for at least 60 seconds.
- Reconnect and power it back on while holding the Resume button (check manual for reset instructions specific to DeskJet 2336).
- Reconnect the printer to your MacBook.
Manually Download HP Printer Drivers
- Go to the HP DeskJet 2336 support page.
- Download and install the latest macOS drivers instead of relying on the HP Smart app.
Use the Gutenprint Open-Source Driver
If official drivers fail, try using the Gutenprint driver:
- Download the Gutenprint package for macOS from SourceForge.
- Install the package and add the printer:
- Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners and click the + button.
- Select your printer and choose the Gutenprint driver during setup.
Reset Printing Subsystems via Terminal
If resetting the print system through Printers & Scanners doesn't work, try this:
- Open Terminal (via Spotlight search or Applications > Utilities).
- Enter the following commands one at a time:
sudo rm -r /System/Library/Extensions/printer.kext
sudo mkdir /System/Library/Extensions/printer.kext
- Restart your MacBook and add the printer again.

Test Using a Different User Account
- Create a new user account on your MacBook:
- Go to System Settings > Users & Groups > Add Account.
- Log in to the new account and try setting up the printer there. This can help isolate whether the issue is user-specific.
Test on Another Mac or Device
- Connect the printer to a different computer or mobile device to confirm whether the issue lies with the printer or the MacBook.
Check Printer Logs (Optional)
- If advanced diagnostics are available on the printer, access them via the HP Smart app or the printer's settings.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

I am stuck here. It seems the driver cannot be detected in MacBook M1. I have added the printer manually in the "Printer and Scanners" setting. The printer is connected, but the printing job isn't working.
I also have reinstalled the software like the instructions asked, but this pop-up window keeps appearing.
