BACKGROUND: We own an HP Officejet Pro 8625. Occasionally, we would like to scan an important photo at a higher resolution than 300 DPI. This should not be a problem since the specifications for this printer are 1200 x 1200 dpi optical. There are work-arounds, but they are both confusing and frustrating. We need an interface that allows the user to access all the printer options.
PROBLEM: When we use the HP 8625 software interface the resolution drop-down for scanning a JPEG, or any other file type, the resolution menu maxes out at 300 dpi. However, if we go to the windows devices and right-click on the printer we can select the 'Start Scan' option to select higher resolutions and other file options such as TIF, PNG, or BMP files from that basic scan interface (not the main software utility loaded in the Windows HP startup menu). Furthermore, we cannot even create new custom shortcuts in the main HP software with higher resolutions or different file formats as those options also top out at 300 dpi.
QUESTION: Why has HP limited the features of the full software interface for scanning? Is there an option that will allow the main software to show these additional settings?

Please try HP Scan Extended using the following software
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi
Once it's downloaded and installed, for Windows 10:
(a) Hit Win key,
(b) Scroll down to HP group/folder,
(c) Double click "HP Scan Extended"
Regards.

Thank you for the suggestion Banhien. Neverthless, I can't believe that HP's own software does not allow for changing the DPI for scanning. Do you have any idea why this is or if they are working on a resolution? The download software is an .MSI file so is it an app or browser extension of some sort?

Hello again Banhien, we downloaded the extended scanning software as you suggested. It has some nice additional features, but the resolutions drop-down menu still only provides a maximum resolution of 300dpi. This is the same problem we had in the standard scan software, any reason the other resolutions are not displaying? The problem is we cannot manually input any other resolution either. Thanks
