I'm on the verge or ordering a Canon i-SENSYS MF742Cdw Laser printer.  I just want to confirm one last thing before I do.....

With my current printer (HP 9010) I need to have all colours to print, even though I only need to print in black.

My question is - If I buy the MF742, can it print with just the black cartridge installed?

Please confirm 🙂

Jack

Thanks for posting, however this forum is for support of HP printers. You would need to ask that question on a Canon forum or of Canon directly. Likely the answer will be that you require all cartridges to print with that as well, based on previous experience with Canon, however they may have changed something in their new systems.

If you find the information provided useful or solves your problems, help other users find the solution easier by marking my post as an accepted solution. Clicking "yes" on "was this reply helpful" also increases the chances that this solution will help others.

You will need to find that confirmation somewhere on a Cannon support forum.

If you print only in black why don't you get a black&white printer?

Most manufacturers make their products to stop working if one of the toners is empty so you can spend some money and buy a new toner from them.  That means more $$$ for printer manufacturers.

Appreciate the response..

Unfortunately, I've only been given a couple of printers to choose from and the one I stated is one of them.  I must have been a bit brain dead this morning by asking a question about a canon on a HP support forum haha!

Again, Thanks for the reply.
