HP DeskJet 2820e All-in-One Printer
Other

I have set up my HP deskjet 2820e printer and it is printing fine when printing a test page from the setup process. However, when i try to print a colour document from Preview on my Mac or from TextEdit on the Mac the print preview is in B&W and the document  prints in B&W. I have run the diagnostics from  the HP Smart app and it tells me everything is OK with the printer.

I am using Mac OSX Sequoia 15.0.1

Any help would be appreciated.

I had the same issue.

I uninstalled the printer from System Preferences - Printers and Scanners,  then reinstalled it using the same menu.  Now the colour option appears in the presets when I try to print a document from the Mac.

Hi @NikonNut

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.

It sounds like your HP DeskJet 2820e is encountering a color printing issue from your Mac. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem:

Check Printer Settings:

  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select your HP DeskJet 2820e from the list.
  • Click on Options & Supplies, then the Driver tab. Ensure that you’re using the correct driver and that it’s set to support color printing.

Print Settings in Applications:

  • When printing from Preview or TextEdit, make sure to check the print settings in the print dialog. Look for a dropdown menu that might say “Quality” or “Color Options.”
  • Ensure that “Print in Grayscale” or “Black & White” is not selected.

Color Profile:

  • In the print dialog, look for any settings related to color management. Make sure the color profile is set correctly, and if there's an option for "Color" or "Automatic," select that.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Make sure you have the latest drivers for your printer. Visit the HP website to download any available updates that are compatible with your version of macOS.

Use HP Smart App:

  • If you haven’t already, try printing from the HP Smart app, as it sometimes has different settings or options that may not be available in Preview or TextEdit.

Test Other Applications:

  • Try printing from another application, like Word or a web browser, to see if the issue is specific to Preview or TextEdit.

Reset Printing System:

  • If none of the above steps work, you can reset the printing system. Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, right-click (or Control-click) in the list of printers, and select "Reset printing system." This will remove all printers and allow you to set up the HP DeskJet 2820e again.

Check for Updates:

  • Make sure your macOS is up to date, as updates can sometimes resolve compatibility issues.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
