Officejet Pro 8710
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I owned an Offciejet Pro 8710 which died. I've bought another one (last in shop and they'd lost the setup inks). I put inks from old printer (HP inks) in new printer but I can't work out how to get past its demand that I use setup inks. Help!

it was sold to me without the setup inks because they couldn't find them. I bought the display model as it was their last. In addition to the inks in the printer that dies I had a complete set of replacement inks which couldn't be returned and was worth more than the new printer at full cost. They sold me the display model at half price. Seemed like a bargain. I was able to source a replacement printer from another source, so all fine. Thanks

Hey there! @Chris_H_W

Did you check with the store where you purchased the printer from about the setup cartridges?

There is no way to bypass the setup cartridges error on this printer. You need the setup cartridges installed on the printer to print again.

SETUP ink cartridges are used only to set up a new HP printer or printhead and supply ink for the first series of your print jobs. They are specially designed to initialize a printer and calibrate ink levels. Unlike replacement ink cartridges, SETUP ink cartridges cannot be purchased from retailers and are available only in the box with a new printer or with some replacement printhead kits. When a SETUP ink cartridge is depleted, purchase and use a normal ink cartridge that matches your printer model to continue printing.

Refer this article to know more information about setup cartridges. Click Here

Also, you can try performing OOBE reset on the printer to avoid receiving the setup cartridge error.

As the steps to perform a reset is confidential and dedicated to your printer. I will share the steps through a private message.

@Chris_H_W,

Thanks for writing back to us.

You could have contacted us before, so we could have suggested you to override the setup cartridges error on the printer.

Anyways I'm happy you got a replacement printer. If you have queries in future, you can always write back to us.

Take Care!

Have a blessed day ahead! 🙂
