Officejet Pro 8710
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought a HP Officejet Pro 8710 last year in Panama (when I was living there). The printer uses 954 cartridges. Now that I live in the USA, can I use the 952 cartridges?

I thought I could, but now I get a message that "The indicated cartridges are not intended for use in this printer" - although the package say they comply with the 8710 model.

What should I do?

Hi,

Get a full set of genuine HP 952 Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow cartridges and have teh pritner connected to a Winodws PC or a Mac computer.

Next contact HP Support in the USA to perform a pen regionalization, a reset must be done by an HP support representative.

If your printer is out of warranty follow these steps to dispute due to issue with accessories, clearly describe that you moved to the USA with the printer:

I have seen some previous posts regarding cartridges to be strictly related to the area where the printer was purchased. Understand where HP comes from but the info in the cartridge itself was supposed to be more clear emphasizing that cartridges are region related and won't work on another countries. In my case I have purchased the printer (8720) in Brazil. The ink was originally (still is) the 954's but from a recent trip to US I have bought a full set of 952's XL. Just wondering if there is anything I can do to not waste the investment and use the 952's cartridges. Thanks.

I called HP helpdesk and the friendly guy took over my computer from a distance, installed required software (complete printer package) and was then able through special codes get into the secret menu to change the country of the printer. So I went from 954's (Latin America) to 952's (USA), as I moved to the USA. If you do not want to waste your investment, you'd need to switch over completely. So also for future ink purchases you'd have to stick to the 952's. Hope this helps.
