Thank you, those steps actually worked and my unit is printing again.  This still does not change my opinion of HP and I will likely be replacing my HP unit as soon as possible.

Don't forget to disable automatic updates so the printer will keep the older firmware version.

Hi Jason,
Mine was also not in a state of "ready" but the solution VALSIMOT provided, which is certainly not an easy fix, worked like sunshine for me.

As soon as the fimware was uploaded to the printer showed "PROGRAMMING" in the screen and after that it was back to normal.

Most import, I think, is to enable "FTP Printing" in the "Networking" - tab under advanced. Its easy to find because it's the only one which is disabled bij default.
