officejet 6500
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

I have an officejet 6500

that I cleaned the printhead cartridge,

the access door will not go down easily,

nor will it shut completely.

I cannot find any information on this type problem.

Is there anyone who has expierenced this,

and has found an answer to the problem.

Thank you for your help.

Welcome to the HP Forums!

It is a dynamite place to find answers and information!

I understand that you are unable to close the cartridge access door.

However, I will need a few details to provide an accurate solution,

  • Did you change the cartridges recently?
  • Did you do any changes to the printer?

Meanwhile, follow the below steps to fix this issue.

Step one

  • With the unit still powered on, open Cartridge Access Door and look for any foreign debris. Remove any foreign material that may be obstructing the seating of the access door.

  • Close access door.

  • If the issue is not resolved, continue to the next step.

Step two

  • Open the Cartridge Access Door again.

  • Slowly close the access door while listening for an audible click of the switch.

  • If the issue is resolved, you do not need to continue with the rest of the instructions on this page.

  • If the issue is not resolved, and/or there is no audible click, continue to the next step.

Step three

  • Open the Cartridge Access Door and look into the mid-chassis opening to see if the metal lever is present.

  • If the metal lever is missing, then it cannot properly trigger the switch and the sensor is faulty. Continue to the next step.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others and please give the same post a Kudos.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers.
