I’m having the same problem as a lot of people I’ve bought remanufactured ink cartridges and keep on getting the message: cartridge can only be used in printer that initially installed it.

Well, I do not advocate smashing anything.  Smiling.

Edits - replaced previous description with "modest"

This is a modest budget printer.  I understand that you want to use remanufactured ink.  Test show the use of such products is not actually cost effective.  What do I know?  I do not know.  I have never used non-HP ink and I don't have any personal opinion on what people do.

It may work - but it may not.

The printer firmware, at least the latest version (and there is no way for me to "go back" to check), does include a warning that non-HP supplies may work - or may not work either now or later.  This is a statement meant to remind you that the use of remanufactured ink and any non-HP ink is not supported for use in your HP printer.

So What?

MAYBE the printer is rejecting this particular remanufactured cartridge - or maybe it will forevermore reject all remanufactured ink cartridges.  We (the Community) have no way to tell which of these describes your situation.

  • You could try a different ink cartridge.
  • You could try going (back) to HP ink cartridges - which may work if the printer ink system still works.
  • You could replace the printer.
