Deskjet F4580
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Hi, I'm having some trouble using a recycled coloured HP 300 XL ink cartridge for my Deskjet F4580 printer/scanner. The coloured cartridge is not being recognised by the printer and I get an error message which says that the cartridge is incompatible.

I've looked through the printer settings and properties, and I've looked at the online printer settings using the IP address, but I cannot find any settings that I can change to turn off cartridge protection.

What I would like to know is whether or not it is indeed possible to turn off cartridge protection for this printer model? And if so, how can I do it?

Thanks in advance for any help.

There is no cartridge protection on that old printer model, also cartridge protection protects the working cartridge to be used in another printer, nothing to do with your problem.

Thanks Valsimot

So would you be able to suggest what the issue might be? The cartridge has ink, the printer itself works fine as it printed something for me earlier today. But for some unknown reason it has decided that now the coloured cartridge is incompatible...

Thanks again.

It's hard to tell for sure but I would blame it on a defective cartridge.
