Hello,

I have a Brother printer that is low on yellow ink.  I don't print very often so I'm not interested in changing the ink cartridge at this time but I keep receiving the below pop up.

MsBiddy_0-1660992439977.png

It is annoying and shows up several times throughout my day.  It pops up over whatever I'm working on forcing me to continuously click on the 'X' or 'OK' to get out of the message.  I'm new to Windows 11, upgrading from an old Windows 8 computer.  I've tried several fixes but nothing I try seems to work as whenever I try a fix and reboot, the message reappears.  Can anyone tell me how to disable these messages permanently? Thanks in advance!

I've tried:

-Disabling Print Notifications

-Unchecking the two boxes below:

Since the alarm is coming from the Brother printer, it might not want to stop sending the alarm.

Check with your Brother Printer support site:  https://support.brother.com/g/b/countrytop.aspx?c=us&lang=en

What else?

Method - Switch off Notifications (Windows 10 / Windows 11)

Settings > System > Notifications and actions

Beneath Notifications, set the following to OFF

  • Get tips, tricks, and suggestions as you use Windows
  • Get notifications from apps and other senders
  • Switch OFF any / all other notifications

Hello Dragon-Fur,

Thank you for your response.  One of the 1st things I did was disable my print notifications but still received the error message - I thought for sure this would take care of the issue.   Will disabling the other notifications you listed below also prevent me from receiving the notifications I want to receive?  Also, I don't know that it's a Brother issue per se because my laptop that uses Windows 8 is connected to the same Brother printer and it does not generate this error message.  This makes me wonder whether it's a Windows 11 issue or some other setting somewhere within the new laptop.

Thanks in advance.

You are welcome.

Yes, switching off any or all of the notifications will surely impact which notices you see.

If you switch off every Windows notice you can find and the "Help! I'm low on yellow ink!" notifications do stop, then -- assuming you want to take the time -- switch on one notice at a time of those you do want to see.  Testing each time will allow you to determine which (if any) of the messages are related.

If your Brother printer supports EWS (Embedded Web Server), there might be a tab / section you can adjust to switch / control the cartridge messages.  See your Brother printer support site and the printer manual for specifics.

Enable Low Ink Warning / Adjust the Printer Supply Settings

Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Settings > Supplies > Supply Settings

Example - HP OfficeJet Pro 9025 - EWS - Settings > Supplies > Supply Settings

EWS_9025_Settings_Supplies_Supply_Settings_3EWS_9025_Settings_Supplies_Supply_Settings_3

What else?

The message might be tied to "something" in Windows 11 - it is more likely that the message is more "printer connection" or "printer software" specific.  Windows is not aware of the printer except as it has been told.  "Being told" about the printer includes whatever the printer software tells Windows about the printer.  See your Brother printer support site and the printer manual for specifics.

The message / alarm about printer ink is not "HP" specific.   The computer hardware does not care about your peripherals (things attached to the network or physically attached to the computer).  The computer hardware not aware of these at all except as connections to various ports.

On the Windows 8 computer, open the printer software - and whatever toolbox is available.

On the Windows 11 computer, do the same.

Compare the settings -- see if you can find anything that jumps out as "This is me!" difference.

I've not seen Windows 8 in an age - it is a similar OS, of course.

The Windows 8 notifications switches might be different.
