I would like to change the default print settings for my 7740 but I can't find how to do it.
If I go to devices/printers and open the printing preferences dialogue, I can change any parameter there .. but they don't stick, next time I print it has always reset to its factory default.
There is a "sdave as" box to click on to save different print settings, but whatever I do it is always grayed out and clicking on it has no effect.. and even if I could I don't know if it would accept it as the default.

.. all a bit strange. I downloaded the print & scan doctor and it told me that the software was not fully installed. But when I clicked on the recommended "download software" button, it said it was unable to. I looked for an HP7740 driver on the HP website and it said it couldn't find any. The HP article didn't work either, since the "printing defaults" button on the advanced properties page was grayed out..
But what I did then do, was to change the printer from using a usb connection to using a wireless network connection. This has solved the problem since all the buttons previously grayed out now work. Why it should have that effect, I don't know but anyway, all is now OK.
Thank you for your assistance

Thank you for posting on HP Forums, MKazi is at your service.
I understand that you're unable to save the print settings for your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer. I'll be glad to assist you with this case.
Please download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor software. This is a free tool for Windows to help resolve issues with the printer drivers.
Secondly, the steps mentioned under "Saving preferred print settings as a new shortcut or as defaults for all print jobs" from this HP article provide step by step instructions to save your print settings.
I hope this information helps. Let me know. Cheers! 🙂
