I can't get my Chromebook to find my HP m1217 printer.  I can print if I go through the hammer print app but I can't have that as the default print on my Chromebook. I can find the HP 8600 which is on the same wireless network as the 1217.  I've tried the HP print for chrome web add-on but that just makes the print dialog hang forever. I don't want to buy a new printer but this is very frustrating. I would appreciate any insight on how to fix this problem.

Hi,

Is the printer connected to your network?

Such a lower-end HostBased printer does not support printing with a USB from a Chromebook, you may use the HP Print for Chrome app, but only through a network connection for your specific printer model:

  • Yes, the printer is hooked up to the same WiFi as the Chromebook.  I also tried HP print for chrome and the print dialog box just hung forever until I finally removed the web app.
