Cant access the menu for set do default. Turning on and off doesnt help either.

What can I do? Is it a physical malfunction? Or planned obsolence by manufacturer?

Hi @scheiterhaufen, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The Error Code 71.0248 on your HP OfficeJet 8014e typically indicates a firmware corruption or a hardware failure related to the control panel or internal memory.

Try These Steps to Fix the Issue:

1. Perform a Power Reset

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cable and wait 2–3 minutes.
  3. Plug it back in and turn it on.

2. Try a Forced Firmware Update

If the error persists, a firmware update might help:

  1. Download the latest firmware for your printer from the HP Support website.
  2. Update via USB:
    • Connect the printer to your PC using a USB cable.
    • Open HP Firmware Update Utility and follow the on-screen instructions to update.

3. Perform a Semi-Full Reset (Factory Reset)

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Press and hold the Back (↩️) button four times quickly to enter the Support Menu.
  3. Navigate to Reset Menu > Semi-Full Reset.
  4. Confirm and let the printer restart.

4. Check for Hardware Issues

  • If the error continues after a reset, the issue might be hardware-related.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
