HP OfficeJet Pro 9010
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP9010 has been continuously enrolled in Instant Ink since it was new 4 years ago. It was printing but had an intermittent communication error. I uninstalled and reinstalled the printer on my Windows desktop. I was able to print a test page, but it couldn't scan, couldn't update firmware, etc. After a cold reset, the printer wanted to know what language to use and which country it is in. It then displayed the message "Cartridge cannot be used until printer is enrolled in HP Instant Ink". I logged into instant ink and verified that this printer IS still enrolled.  Next, the printer tried to print an alignment page which it can't do because it doesn't recognize that it is enrolled in instant ink. So it just hangs, unable to print the alignment page and unable to move on. The HP Smart Print utility shows the printer as being offline, and the lack of a blue WiFi indicator light on the front panel shows that the printer is not communicating. I can't connect it via USB because I don't have a suitable cable. It won't allow me to enter my WiFi password while it is hung on printing an alignment page. I tried removing the cartridges, repeating the cold restart (as suggested in this forum for a similar problem with a different printer), then reinstalling the cartridges but it still hangs on printing the alignment page. What do I do now? Thanks!

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to assist you with the instant ink error issue.

Let's reset the network settings on the Printer: Touch Network Setup. Touch Restore Network Settings. A message appears stating that the network defaults will be restored. Touch Yes.

Once done, connect the to the Wi-Fi: 1. From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch (Wireless). 2. Touch ( Settings ). 3. Touch Wireless Settings. 4. Touch Wireless Setup Wizard or Wi-Fi Protected Setup. 5. Follow the display instructions to complete the setup.

Let me know if this helps.

How do you get to the network setup page?  Mine won't go past the alignment page, and restarting the printer takes me back to the same place.

@d_mac

If the printer is stuck at the alignment process, kindly perform the steps mentioned in this document - Alignment errors

To go to the Network setup page on the printer,

On the printer screen, go to Setup > Network Setup > Restore network settings

Go back to Network > Wireless > Wireless setup wizard and select your network.

Let me know how it goes.

I am stuck!!! No chat available - no support available. I cannot get past "Printing alignment page"....this has been going on for over 5 hours!!!

It's frustrating that the employee doesn't seem to understand the problem enough to suggest something that cannot be done.

I finally got my printer working again by plugging in via cable my printer to my laptop in order for the printer to get internet access in order to verify that the Instant Ink cartridges were legal and I was still enrolled, and then it would finish the alignment and allow me to continue to the Home screen.  Only then could I access the wireless setup to re-setup the wifi access that was deleted due to the cold reset.  So frustrating.

My experience was the same as d-mac's. When you do a cold reset, the screen should warn you to have the USB cable handy because that appears to be the only way to get the printer working again
