This just happened recently. One morning , I tried to print a document. I was confused why nothing was happening. Turns out the Color Ink light was blinking, it also said that user intervention was required. I went onto several links regarding ink light blinking weeks prior, and I tried to print on another device but it said that the color ink cartridge might be damaged. This evening, I tried once more. I tried printing a document, and it didn't print so I tried printing a test page by pressing and holding the power button and the cancel button, and releasing. The documents I wanted to print came out first, then the test page. I initially thought that black ink was used. But the test page had ink levels on it and that the color ink cartridge still had a lot of ink. I tried printing another document that requires colored ink, and tried the same method. I pressed print first, then did the process of printing a test page. It came out just as I wanted to. What is going on here? Why is the color ink light blinking?

Good Day. Thank you for taking an interest in the HP community. I understand that you require assistance regarding issues with printing in color. I will be glad to assist you and let’s get right to it. Superb analysis and great observations made. It is amply appreciated.
Let me gather some information for better clarity to assist you correctly:
- Did it happen after a power outage or surge?
- Did it occur after a software or windows update?
- Did you make photocopies in color directly from the printer?
I will be providing a roadmap with some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. Let us try these steps:
- Please perform a hard reset on the printer from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-deskjet-ink-advantage-1510-all-in-one-printer-series/5285089... and follow instructions from the section “Step 1: Reset the printer”
Then follow all the prescribed steps from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-deskjet-ink-advantage-1510-all-in-one-printer-series/5285089... (HP Printers - 'User Intervention Required' Error When Printing (Windows)
This should do the trick for you. If the issue continues then try these steps:
Then make 2 copies in color directly from the printer without any communication from the computer eliminate hardware issues with it.
If it copies correctly then perform a root level uninstallation and reinstallation of the printer drivers by following these step by step procedure:
- Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
- Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)
- Go to devices and printers, in the control panel and select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.
- Click on print server properties.
- You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there if any.
- Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
- Restart the PC.
- Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,
- Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
- It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).
- If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.
- Ignore the Regedit option if it cannot be done.
- Restart the PC again.
Then download the latest full feature driver from https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-deskjet-ink-advantage-1510-all-in-one-... and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.
Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.
This should fix the issue.
- Also, this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-deskjet-ink-advantage-4670-all-in-one-printer-series/7317523... (HP Printers - Print Driver Settings Guide (Windows) gives all relevant settings of your printer.
- Check the section under the option “Color and black & white settings”
Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂
