My MFP M277dw has worked like a champ for years but has just recently become stuck in the initializing step whenever it is turned on.  I've tried disconnecting everything and doing a power reset but it has not helped.  I have seen in some past conversations on this forum that doing a full factory reset is necessary to resolve this, but that involves some secret incantation that needs to be sent off line to the requestor.  Can someone please send me the instructions for doing the full factory reset?  Thanks.

Yes, for the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw, if the device is responsive enough to access the control panel, you can perform a basic factory reset using the following steps:


Restore Factory Defaults from the Control Panel

  1. On the printer’s control panel, touch the Setup (gear icon) button.
  2. Scroll down and select the Service menu.
  3. Scroll to and touch Restore Defaults.
  4. Confirm by selecting OK.
  5. The printer will automatically restart.

Thanks for the quick response and information.  Unfortunately, since the printer almost immediately starts "initializing" once it is turned on, it doesn't give me access to the Setup (gear icon) button.  It just stays stuck on the initializing screen.  Any other ideas?
